If someone had told him years ago that he would die young and come back and gain a family, Jim would have laughed in their face. He had been young, indestructible, and had everything that made him happy in life; Hayden and a home all to themselves. It had been bliss; married for a week and the rest of their lives head of them. Or so Jim had liked to think. The dream had been cut brutally short by a collision from a semi truck to his car, and the month or so after that had been a blur of wandering a white space. A blank canvas of nothingness. It had been disturbing, being so alone and knowing he was alone somewhere, with no company and no idea what was going on or how Hayden was doing. It had been torment on him, and had been the longest time in his life (or was it eternity?). Whatever it was, it had killed him inside, and when he was finally freed by the miracle of another chance, he had taken off towards home and found something that broke his heart.
Hayden had been so famished and sickly looking, clutching a knife and ready to end his life. Jim had panicked, and had desperately tried to convince Hayden he was real. Somehow, it had worked, and from then on, life seemed to blur in a fastforward of life and love, and surprises. Like Serenity. Her arrival into the world (even when she was still a little embryo) had been a shock, but welcomed. Aiden was another shock. But Jim had welcomed both with opened arms and had embraced them with all his heart. The death and transformation of Hayden was another horrifying shock, one that had terrified Jim out of his wits. But it was okay now. Hayden was alive, was an angel, like him. Life seemed to be calm now... and as Jim watched Serenity play with her little brother on the playground, Jim couldn't help but smile warmly. She was growing so fast, and so was Aiden. They both knew to keep their wings hidden away, and were old enough to walk and talk. They were growing up fast.
Jim sighed, reaching up to run a hand through his hair gently before hooding his blue eyes halfway for a moment, leaning back on the bench he was sitting on calmly. Life was beginning to look peaceful once more. The smile curved on his lips and Jim relaxed, shifting in his seat before sitting up straight again, turning his gaze away from the kids for a moment to look around for Hayden. There was still worry for his husband, and there always would be, that something would befall him somehow. Jim had already failed him once, dying in the car crash and leaving him behind, and he had sworn to Hayden he would never fail again. He swore that he would still be there, always and forever, and he would stand by that promise, no matter what.
Gnawing on his lip, Jim stood up from the bench and stretched, trying to find his husband without panicking. Hayden had gone to get ice cream from the little trolly up the path, so he would be back soon. The relief slithered through him as he caught sight of his husband, and two squeals erupted from the playground as both kids clambered over the equipment and rushed towards Hayden with shrieks of 'ICE CREAM!' leaving their lips. Jim couldn't help but laugh and he shook his head, walking after them and towards his husband, leaning to kiss his cheek when he was close enough, chuckling. "I thought you got lost for a moment there," he teased gently, smiling more and wrapping one arm around Hayden to pull him close tenderly.

It was weird how life had changed so drastically over the last few years. Everything had been a mess for most of his life, what with the abuse and the rape and having to keep everything a secret. Just thinking about it made him shudder, ice blue eyes glimmering as he blinked, forcing back tears that could easily come from the memories. He didn't want to think about the bad times he'd been through, not when everything was so perfect now, with Jim and Serenity and Aiden. He couldn't believe his daughter was already two and his son already one. He couldn't believe he and Jim were both angels. He couldn't believe he even had Jim. Hayden had never thought that Jim would be attracted to him, let alone fall in love with him. He'd first laid eyes on him in English class. Jim had walked in, Hayden had spotted him, and his heart had melted. Thinking about it now made him blush, his heart fluttering in his chest. He reached his right hand up, holding it over his heart as his head ducked down, long legs slowly carrying him toward the ice cream vender. He was hit with anxiety the moment he was more than an arms length away from his husband but he'd promised the kids ice cream so he wasn't going to return until he'd gotten it.
Jimmy can still see me. I'll be okay. Nothing bad will happen. He gulped, reluctantly looking back up. The vender was just a few strides away now. Taking a deep breath, Hayden looked back over his shoulder, looking for his family, before stepping up to the vender and sighing softly. "What can I get you?" the vender asked him and Hayden almost panicked. "Uh... o-one chocolate and... and one strawberry, please..." His voice shook and the vender looked at him funny before scooping the ice cream. Serenity loved all things strawberry and Aiden liked chocolate so hopefully they would be happy with the choices. The vender handed him one of the cones and waited for Hayden to pay him before handing over the other one. Hayden thanked him quietly and turned around, quickly walking back in the direction of Jim and his kids.
'ICE CREAM!' Hayden grinned, relaxing the moment he heard and saw his children. He laughed, walking closer to them before having his legs hugged by both of the toddlers. Shaking his head, Hayden leaned down and handed the little girl and boy their ice cream cones. They were going to make such a mess, but Hayden didn't mind. As long as they were happy, Hayden could care less about a little ice cream mess. Standing back up as the two kids walked over to the bench, climbing up onto it to and sitting next to each other, the twenty year old looked around before giggling when he saw his husband. The kiss on his cheek had him blushing like crazy, his face bright red. "I thought you got lost for a moment there," The young man pouted, huffing playfully as he was pulled closer. "Were they okay while I was gone?

The smile curled over Jimmy's lips as he watched Aiden toddle towards Hayden with Serenity in the lead, already grabbing onto her father's leg happily. The angel couldn't help but smile and laugh as Aiden grabbed Hayden's other legs, the kids clinging to their father happily like a couple of little monkeys, all for ice cream. As Hayden handed them their cones, they detached from him and toddled their way to a bench instead, climbing up on it to eat their ice cream side by side, adorable as ever. Jim couldn't help but chuckle, knowing that they'd both be having a bath tonight to clean up their messy selves, but it was adorable.
Jim smiled and wrapped an arm around his husband, pulling the younger male to himself gently, bumping his hip playfully and grinning even more as he saw the blush on Hayden's cheeks. The older angel would never tire of seeing his husband blush over the smallest bits of affection. It was one of the many things he loved about the younger male. Even the pout was adorable, and Jim resisted kissing Hayden until the pout went away, instead nuzzling him affectionately and feeling much more content and at ease with him close. "Were they okay while I was gone?" Jim chuckled, arching a brow and letting those blue eyes focus on his husband, the shimmering depths glinting with good natured mischief.
"Nope, they ran around in circles screaming like banshees and tried to set the park on fire," he teased, trying to keep a straight face before laughing. "Of course they were okay. They're the perfect little angels," he assured Hayden, smiling more and kissing his cheek again before tugging him along gently towards the swingset and taking a seat on one himself. His long legs caused his feet to drag a little as he swung a little bit, his energy levels as high as ever today and he smiled. "It was a great idea to come to the park today. The kids have loved it." Jim purred in the back of his throat contentedly, his blue eyes half closed as he looked over towards the little girl and boy on their bench, babbling and eating their ice cream. They were the perfect little family, and Jim couldn't be happier with them. He was as happy as possible, and it was amazing he even had any of this at all, but he thanked his blessings he did.

He'd always been the type to strive for perfection. At school, he had been the student that answered every question and passed every test and got all As and never disrespected substitutes. At the barn, he always wanted to be the best rider that he could be, he wanted to push himself to his limits even if it meant doing something well above his skill level. He'd taken quite a few spills over silly little things like that. At home, he was the perfect son. He didn't talk back, he didn't make a mess, he didn't cause drama, and he never told his parents no. Especially his father. He shuddered slightly at the thought of the abusive man before closing his eyes and reveling in the feeling of having Jim with him. As long as he had the older male by his side, Hayden knew that he could get through anything that life threw at him. Jimmy was his guardian angel.
When Jim wrapped an arm around him, Hayden emitted a small squeak, the noise high pitched and girlish. His face flushed bright red once more as his pearly white teeth pinched his pierced lower lip, the expression innocently seductive without meaning to be. Maybe. One could never tell with Hayden. His hip was bumped against Jim's and the young angel giggled, curling an arm around his husband and letting his fingers trail lightly over the spot where his wings would be attached to his back had he had them out. He frowned cutely, wishing that Jim had his wings, but he knew they couldn't just walk around with their wings out. That was scare the humans, and as angels, they weren't supposed to scare them, but protect them. Right? That's what it had said in the Bible. Angels did the work of God and protected the humans. But then again, not everything that he'd been taught about the Bible was true - like using it to justify the beating of a child. That was completely and utterly wrong.
Gentle nuzzling drew his attention away from such thoughts and he shivered, the blush never fading from his cheeks as he smiled happily, curling his arm more around the older angel as Jim chuckled. Jim's laugh was beautiful. Hayden swore he could listen to it all day and just feel... safe. That and Jim singing. Hayden couldn't count the number of nights he had fallen asleep in his husband's arms as he sang a comforting, soothing song. "Nope, they ran around in circles screaming like banshees and tried to set the park on fire," Hayden stuck out his tongue, laughing softly and shyly. "Of course they were okay. They're the perfect little angels," The six foot male had been about to say something in response when Jim kissed his cheek and instead he found himself squealing in delight, reaching his head up and touching the place where Jim's lips had just been. He felt so carefree with Jim. Like a constant sensation of floating on air. And he wouldn't trade it for the world.
He dropped his hand from his face with a soft sigh before following Jim over to the swing set, plopping down into the swing next to him and letting his feet drag in the wood chips below them. He could still remember the days when his feet couldn't touch the ground and Becka would push him and he felt like he had been flying. Ironic how now he could actually fly, even if it scared him. "It was a great idea to come to the park today. The kids have loved it." The words made the young man sigh in content and look over at the two toddlers who were busy chatting away and eating their ice cream cones. Serenity lifted one of her little hands and waved at them and, laughing, Hayden waved back before reaching across the empty space between the swings and gently grabbing his husband's hand.
"We should bring them here more often," he responded gleefully, flipping his hair out of his eyes before looking up at the sky. There was a cloud floating by that looked like a heart and he couldn't help but giggle, giving Jim's hand a soft squeeze before looking down at their hands, lacing his fingers with the older man's. "I love you, Jimmy," he murmured shyly, peeking up at the black haired angel from behind his own light brown hair, "Forever and always."
